Everything feels more relaxed in the summertime, including our beauty routines. Summer hair typically conjures low-effort looks that keep hair looking great no matter the temperature. “Summer hair is carefree and low effort but with a hint of polish," says Adir Abergel, celebrity hairstylist and creative director for Virtue Labs. "It's all about ease, enhancing natural texture, and flow—especially when you’re out at the beach or hiking a mountain." As warmer weather comes around, air-dried locks, slicked-back styles, and wet looks stage a comeback. "They still feel summer-appropriate but add a touch of edge to the effortless vibe," Abergel explains.
When in doubt, find a style that feels effortless, which Temur Hamilton, hairstylist, colorist, and owner of TEMUR in New York, says is the spirit of the season. "Once the weather turns warmer, we want to lean into styles and colors that are easy to maintain and feel light and fun, like summer itself," he adds. Ahead, we dive into the five biggest trends of the season that are as easy to adopt as they are to create, so you can spend more time traveling or hitting the beach.
Long and Layered
If you have been growing out your hair, you're in luck because long, layered hair is the celeb-favorite cut for summer. “Long hair is making a comeback," Abergel says. "I love this with slight layers and frame-facing pieces, so you can get the look of a voluminous blowout from the 90s, or just wear your hair natural and air dried.”

Call it The White Lotus effect, but bobs are having a moment. "The French bob—a chin-length, curved, face-framing take on the classic cut—is particularly popular this season," Hamilton says. "Shorter haircuts are great for hot summer days, because not only do they keep you cooler, but they tend to be lower-maintenance when it comes to styling."

Celebrity hairstylist and founder of RŌZ, Mara Roszak, created an uber-short tapered bob for Zoe Saldaña for the 2025 Met Gala, giving her face a chiseled look. Roszak created the exaggerated shape with a flatiron, which makes the style heatproof.

If you aren't ready to cut above the chin, opt for a longer bob with layers for added texture. Plus, add some loose waves to give an effortless summer vibe.

Slicked-Back Styles
“Heatless hairstyles for summer are always a favorite," Abergel says. Any style that keeps hair out of the face is great, he adds, but a slicked-back bun is a perfect, polished option. "I love to create these styles using hydrating treatments such as a hair mask to give the hair a treatment while it’s styled throughout the day. By the time the day is over, you have the assistance of the summer heat driving the hair mask into the hair and healing it while looking effortlessly styled."

Slicked-Back Styles
A sleek, slicked-back bun looks instantly polished, but to give it a little texture and added oomph, leave a few pieces of your ends sticking out of the bun. The rise of waxy slick sticks makes it easy to keep baby hairs in place.
